Dentist Marketing

As a professional working in the dental field you provide a service that people not only need, they seek out even during times of economic difficulty.  It's a great field to be in but, just like any other business, a lack of customers walking through your door can spell certain disaster for your business.  Dentist marketing is a field that not only has helped many dentists to be successful, it is help some to reach a level of success that others have been unable to do.  There are times, however, that marketing efforts by dentists don't seem to take their business anywhere.  What is it that makes one person successful in another unsuccessful?  Are there any dentist marketing techniques that you might be missing?

You've probably spent a lot of time going to school to learn how to be a dentist.  One of the things that may have been touched on while you're at school but was not a main focus of your studies was marketing.  Marketing is an art form all to its own and there are some subtle differences between the way things can be done that can either mean success or failure to your business.  An example of this would be choosing between the various types of dentist marketing that is available, such as coupon mailers, yellow page advertising and Internet advertising.  All of them have their place in your marketing efforts but how do you keep from spreading yourself too thin?

One of the best things that you can do for your business in order to help it grow is to hire a marketing consultant.  There are plenty of reliable consultants out there that deal specifically with medical professionals and can help you to choose the type of marketing that would work the best in your particular area.  For instance, you may have a lot of competition that is new to your area and they are constantly providing deals in the coupon packages that are sent out to homes.  These coupons tend to draw a crowd of customers that are really only looking for a one-time fix or perhaps some kind of cosmetic procedure.  Even though this can put a lot of money in your bottom line, the regular customers that come in for checkups and cleanings are the ones that will pay your bills and keep your office open.  You might be better off trying to specifically target new people in your area.

The Internet is another form of dentist marketing that many people have not yet embraced.  The fact of the matter is, most people are now switching over to searching for medical professionals on the Internet rather than looking to the local yellow pages.  There will always be some that will find you as a result of word-of-mouth recommendations but when somebody is new in town they may not have anyone to recommend you to them.  Make sure that you have developed a web presence for dentistry in your area (including the ZIP code) and you may be able to catch the people who have recently moved into your town or city.

Through a systematic approach to your dentist marketing you will see your business grow and continue growing.  Just make sure that you are using the proper marketing techniques as well as keeping someone on retainer that will be able to help you with developing your marketing strategy.  This is as important of a part of your business as any because a dentist office without patients will not last for a long.
